ideas! ideas! ideas! we want YOU.

yaHOOOOOOOO!

So it's that time again! And I forgot for a moment to keep track of the closing dates...and wern needs more of our aggregate voting-based community love and advice.
As we all know, this means.....

TIME FOR A NEW POLL!

Unfortunately the current bout of exam shindig has drained all sense of creativity for the time being.
(I think I can safely speak on behalf of my fellow wernhasnotoothpaste comrades on this XD)

SO! Send in your suggestions in the comments box for what new, weird, exciting, tantalizing,...etc direction we should take hey, and with all of the combined power of google and the internet, we are sure to come up with something...

EPICCCCCCCCCCC!!!!! (as spaghetti man would say)

ok, peace out for now!

There are times
You pause and wonder
What are you doing
Why you are doing this
'You'll be fine on your own... right?' You said, forcing it upon me
I smiled, then carried on forward

Audit study guide for test.

Three things that are likely to come up.
1. Expectation Gap
2. Business risk 5 elements
3. That p.60 - Learn how to identify

Expectation - risk that affect what you will expect to see in that financial statements

Client Viability - risk of the organisation not being viable

Audit risk (of specific assertions) - does the risk mean it is likely that an item is incorrectly valued, not complete, inaccurate etc.

Control environment - risk that make misstatemts more likely e.g. management under extreme pressure to meet targets, etc.

Clints advice/ comments for client - is this a risk that the the auditor should inform the client about.

What is Auditing: Auditing is a professional engagement that allows an independent auditor to provide a high but not absoulte level of assurance through issuing a positive opinion about the creditibiliy of assertion or a set of assertions base on accountability.
Auditing: provide assurance about the reliability of information in financial statement
assurance is improving the quality of information.

Expection gap:It is the difference between the auditor understanding of their duties and what the user expect the auditors to do.

Three components of EG: Defficient performance, defficient standard, unreasonable expectation.
The two way to improve: better auditing and public education.

Completeness means ' all transatcion and events that should have been recoreded has been recorded.
Accuracy means amounts and data relating to recorded transactions and events have been recorded appropriately
occurance means transactions and events that have been recorde have occured andpertain to the entity
cut-off means ' transactions and evens have been recorded in the correct accounting period being examinded
classification means 'transactions and events have been recorded in the proper accounts.

audit risk = risk of material misstatemnt X dection risk. and risk of material misstatement can be broken down into inherent risk and control risk. detection risk can be broken down into smapling risk and non- sampling risk

Cost of fail audit
Lost of reputation
NZICA discipline
Legal consequence

Materiality
The Magnitude of an omission or misstatment of accounting information that, in light of surrounding circumstance, makes it probable that the judgment of a reasonable person relying on the information would have been change or influenced by the omission or misstatment.

222. RAGE. BURN. KILL.

Rant

What was said below is pretty much my rant for the past few weeks, *but wait theres more!*
me, millhouse, spaghetti man, and sniffle are currently "studying" for our 222 test coming up tonight.

Sniffle is : playing Bonks
Millhouse is: actually doing some work
Spaghetti man: just came in
Me: well, im on the blog

The thing about 222 is that there's almost no consistency in the answers what so ever.
The diagrams are sometimes labeled other times not labeled, the list of important features of a diagram varies depending on what time of the month it is etc etc...

In conclusion, all we can hope for is that the test was written during the "right" time of the month.

On an unrelated topic; our site has recently reached the 3k mark, YAYYY (hopefully some of these views are NOT by us)

I hate:

  1. randoms who come to my tutorial stream, thinking they are the shit, and talking non-stop,loudly, ignoring all the STFU glances, questioning the answers that were given on Cecil, whining on and on "BUT Why? I disagree with the marking scheme. I mean I think I know a great deal more than the marker in PHIL 105". PLEASE STAY IN YOUR STREAM, you @#$&%.
  2. dipshits who walk slowly/stop to talk and hence hold up traffic/walk like drunk in zig zag fashion hence blocking pathway at the crossing/the bridge outside UBS/quad/outside subway. PLEASE RUN LIKE YOU STOLE SOMETHING, you $#@*%.
  3. lecturers who take something very simple and make it sound like a foreign language class (unless it is a foreign language class)/ who start on a mathematical example and halfway through ( just when you think you would have at least one worked solution for this maze of a subject called Math 208) gives up on numbers and starts writing gibberish/ who have never used Power Point before. PLEASE TAKE RITALIN TO PREVENT SELF FROM GOING ADD AND WRITING CRAP ALL OVER THE PLACE, you @#%#$^.
  4. spurging on a pair of shoes and then realising that you have NOTHING in your closet that goes with it because the shoes is so not typically you. WHY DO I HAVE NOTHING THAT MATCHES MY EXPENSIVE SHOES? more importantly, WHY DID I BUY THAT @#%$&* PAIR OF SHOES?!

ps: how much swearing is allowed/not allowed in posting? thank you for your time.

WHNTP team would like to wish happy birthday to Rawr.

Hope you've had a special day :)

New Poll

While waiting for our (me and spagetthi man) lecture at 8am we thought we'll try and revive this blog since the last post was over 2 weeks ago....

We've made a new poll on the issue of 8am lecture.

(hmmm this post doesn't seem to "flow".... o well.... blame it on the early mornings)

Since its winter over here, getting up and leaving the house at 6:40am means that we leave in total darkness..... That must be one of the most horrible thing to wake up to.

Accountant = architect?

We all know that accounting is just an over-complication of what is essentially revenue-expenses.
When the new faculty building was constructed, I would've thought that the university would have used architects to design the building. However, I have come to the conclusion that there were cost-cutting involved in the construction of the building. Instead of using architects, they actually asked accounting staff to design the building.

While I sat this morning waiting for my lecture I saw a great number of visitors (most likely here for some event) walking into the building and:
1. Had no clue where they were suppose to go
2. Had no idea HOW to get there

I might have mentioned a while back that there are all but one visible stairs that lead up from the first to the second floor, and that stair is OUTSIDE the building.... Ok, it might look good to not have a stair inside leading up for the second floor, or it might be the new "it" thing but come on... this is the building NOT an accounting practice or something that should be over-complicated.

Since we're talking about accounting, let me rage about the allocation of marks in the test.
We were asked to fill in the missing numbers for a statement (from a-e). There were NO indication that they asked for the "total" figure at the end so I didnt add all the figures from a-e up.

Got my marked paper back yesterday and found out that they actually allocated 20% to the total figure..... I had a massive (albeit invisible) WTF on top of my head.....
Ughhh......

*Dang that was a long post.....that should make up for the recent lack of complaints/b***ing

The Joys of Econometrics

It appears that the OLS estimation method is more accurate than the WLS estimation method. Which is strange…..wieukfjsnda,esewfhkajewkl considering the fact that WLS is suppose to be a better method than freaking OLS on robust!!!!!
Why? Why?! WHY?!?!?!?!?!

Joy of Early Lectures

O the joy of coming into uni early in the morning.

Heading in early will get you the joy of :
- Catching a bus that is packed full like a sardine can
-Waiting at the intersection with all those ppl in biz suits.
-Seeing college (high school) students wagging school
- Seeing the electric bus run out of power in the middle of the intersection

-To top it all off, knowing that your friends are still sleeping in bed....
